I hope you&#8217;re doing alright. Here&#8217;s some excerpts of the words I write, for your enjoyment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I worked at Concord Theatricals, I wrote articles for their magazine, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/breakingcharacter.com\/author\/michaelvalladares\/\">Breaking Character<\/a><\/em>. Here are some of my favorites:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/breakingcharacter.com\/adrienne-kennedy-in-five-plays\/\">Adrienne Kennedy in Five Plays<\/a>&#8220;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/breakingcharacter.com\/black-voices-in-theatre\/\">Black Voices in Theatre Before and After A Raisin in the Sun<\/a>&#8220;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/breakingcharacter.com\/its-more-than-a-living-playwrights-working-in-the-tvfilm-space\/\">It\u2019s More Than a Living: Playwrights Working in the TV\/Film Space<\/a>&#8220;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newplayexchange.org\/plays\/1330764\/sometime-when-everything-has-changed\">Sometime When Everything Has Changed<\/a> is a play for young audiences that explores the freeing power of imagination during times of restriction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9fhv4bz5j3E\">Letters From Away Episode Two: Coming Home<\/a><\/em> is a visual and aural exploration of what it means to come home to one&#8217;s self when the world is fractured into a million pieces. Written letters are unlike any other form of communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If ever you think about <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1pBC8YgX2Neh1LtQVufZ7W3C828I1_eMy\/view?usp=sharing\">somewhere else<\/a>, then this poem is for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1S3yCLI324NXpI2JHfnSFsOJRTVMKf8DQ\/view?usp=sharing\">&#8220;The Third Drawer On the Left&#8221;<\/a> is a short story written during the summer of 2020, while the author was piecing together what it meant to live life during the pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the Boston University School of Theatre, I have to write a paper each semester detailing my artistic process and how I perceived myself within my community. <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1GTGkftPzLzeqfZmjZfFKt4cIovOLud9j\/view?usp=sharing\">[I Read a Sonnet to a Stranger]<\/a> is a short story I wrote and turned in as that paper in the Fall of 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1FE7BPBaxpZ-z3a5_LwURSVBoOsZBqm0g\/view?usp=sharing\">Here&#8217;s<\/a> some literary criticism; a comparative analysis of Plato and Samuel Johnson, in case you&#8217;re into that sort of thing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also help other people write words: I&#8217;m an associate editor for LMDA REVIEW: The Journal of Dramaturgy. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lmda.org\/review\">Check it out here.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve got more to share &#8212; a collection of 50 sonnets, a dramatic sci-fi adaptation of <em>One Thousand and One Nights<\/em>, the atmospheric libretto for an experimental movement film &#8212; contact me if you&#8217;re interested!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m looking for literary representation that can help me share my words with as many people as possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Photo by Ransom Silliman.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;The people who produce the poet are not responsible to him: he is responsible to them.&#8221; &#8211;James Baldwin, &#8220;Why I Stopped Hating Shakespeare.&#8221; Hey, you.
